DP Fall Showcase: Recap 2023
By: Austin Alexander – November 4-5, 2023 We have been doing this dp thing for 18 seasons now; that covers quite a few events at plenty of sites and encompassing its fair share of talent over time. This weekend at River Bluff is similar to the rest as each evaluator walked away with more excitement than usual of the names previously unknown to us made it clear that they are good now and aren’t disappearing any time soon! We were at River Bluff HS again on November 4-5 and sure do love the hospitality. Most young kids and parents have never been there, it’s a fairly impressive place! And we have been fortunate to call it home for 10 or so years. Jack Frost greeted us each morning but quickly gave way to truly amazing temperatures and clear blue skies both days! The usual execution of the 60’s, defensive workout, batting practice and bullpens preceded games for each team in attendance. Even quicker than usual, everything moved at a productive rate of speed as we wrapped up the totality of Day 1 nearly two hours ahead of schedule. From the combine ‘stuff’ i.e., measurables, it was quite apparent that prospects in our state remains talent-rich. James Island unsigned 6’7″ senior Wyatt Crouch impressed in the bullpen portion, then again in competition with a FB living at 86-87 MPH and bowling ball, sinking action. Not far behind him was North Augusta 2024 southpaw Jaxon Jean and 2025 Mid-Carolina RHP Kaden Myers with impressive performances, respectively. There were some eye-opening rounds of BP full barrels spraying bullets and in-game action too, but no one put together a sequence of raw power, though Palmetto 2025 Grayson Crawford did play pepper with the River Bluff press box/wall in rightfield. However, Boiling Springs 2026 Titus Hutchins (right) portrayed an array of talents over the course of his time on the this diamond. Speed-wise, this one is easy when Summerville 2025 Thomas Tyler (pictured at top) walked away with the top sixty time posting a 6.65, while also turning in a H/1B 4.47 turn time on a single. There was not a close second in this portion of the workouts! One of the really fun aspects of our ‘open’ showcase each fall are the very young players that force notice. North Augusta 2028 RHP Jordan Scott (left) led the way at 76-79 MPH, keep in mind this dude is an 8th grader. Brayden Brogdon (Rock Hill, 2027) and a host of others became notable ‘follows’ going forward.
