The 5A state championship environment is unlike any other. When the last ball is thrown and the stadium lights are turned off at the end of the season, only one champion can be crowned. The players have been grinding for this moment the entire year from their summer mornings in the weight room, fall practices, to their spring break tournaments and region play; it all comes down to these last few games.
There is a major difference in being able to look back at this time in the future saying that “we almost had it” and saying that “we won a state championship.” For some of these players these are their last times on a high school baseball field before stepping into the college ranks.
For others if they were to come up short this year they could have other chances, but who wants to wait that long?
