By: Staff Writer - May 10, 2010
Wando knocks off White Knoll, 4-1, in lower state playoffs
Mt.  Pleasant, S.C. -- Drew Cisco went the distance scattering six hits and Reid Langdale delivered a two-run single that helped Wando snap White Knoll's 25-game winning streak in a 4-1 victory in AAAA Lower State playoff action before 1,247 at Warriors Field on Monday.
Wando, which plays host to either White Knoll or Summervile on Friday, improved to 28-2.  White Knoll, which plays Summerville in an elimination game on Wednesday, fell to 27-2. Summerville eliminated Sumter, 3-2, on Monday.
"Drew Cisco was outstanding after his short outing at Summerville on Saturday," said Wando coach Jeff Blankenship. "He threw strikes, mixed his pitches well and shut down one of the top hitting teams in the state, if not the southeast."
Wando's Connor Bright doubled and Cisco walked leading off the third inning.  After a pair of strikeouts and a double-steal by Bright of third and courtesy runner Tyler Seeley of second, Langdale delivered a two-run single to right center to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
Wando stretched its lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning. Robbie Dodds singled with one out, moved to second on a grounder, and scored on Bright’s line-drive single to center.
White Knoll cut the margin to 3-1 in the sixth inning. Zack Smith led off with a triple to right center and one out later pinch runner Mark Matthews scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Matt Tanner.
Wando added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Nick Ciuffo led off with a walk and courtesy runner Brandon Scherling eventually scored on a two-out throwing error for a 4-1 Wando lead.
Cisco walked one and struck out 10 en route to improving his record to 10-1.  Eric Allen (8-1) suffered the loss surrendering four runs, three earned, on eight hits over the first 5 1/3 innings.
Bright finished 3-for-3 for Wando, while Langdale collected two hits in three at bats.
