Each week during the High School season DP announces a player, pitcher & team of the week. The selection process is based on players stats, observations/recommendations from our staff and prep coaches who weigh in with a nomination. Once again, DP was able to lay eyes on quite a few teams across our state as the regular season begins to wind down. We look forward to continue bringing this to you every week as we highlight these prospects and a team that performs at a high level. As you know, these selections are never easy, but we will give it our best shot! Coaches who submit a viable candidate certainly helps! -Pitcher of the Week- Scout Gilfillan – 2025, Gaffney, RHP, Spartanburg Methodist signee: In what turned out to be Gilfillan’s final high school game, it was one to remember. In front of the home crowd in Gaffney, the SMC signee spun a complete game where he punched out 16 batters, allowed only three hits and gave up no runs. Last week, he was 9-for-10 with seven extra base hits including three home runs. He also collected 9 RBI’s. On Wednesday night he broke the school record with 19 career homeruns. He has also clubbed nine this season. The Warriors lived up to the billing with a big sweep and they outscored their opponents 34-4 in a three-game thrashing. In a game to clinch the region they did that in impressive fashion with a 14-2 victory. Entering the playoffs the Indian Land has a record of 22-4.
