DP’s 11th Annual invite-only Pro Day was hosted on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at River Bluff High School. Over the years, 137 players that have attended this event were later selected in the Major League Baseball Draft, perhaps a few more a were present at this event! 80+ scouts were in attendance as we dodged Mother Nature and her nasty curveballs. This year, World Series Champion and 2010-2011 Pro Day alum Carl Edwards Jr. (left) was on hand speaking to the 2017 class of players. We were also honored to have former Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles pitching coach Leo Mazzone (right) as our guest speaker to players, parents, coaches and fans prior to the event, FREE for all. -Cory Welch- Cory Welch served as the pitching coach at JL Mann High School from 2012-2017. During Welch’s tenure at JL Mann, nine pitchers continued their career at the next level. Also in his time at JL Mann, the Patriots have captured the Region, District, and Upper State titles in the 2015 and 2016 season. Prior to arriving to JL Mann, Welch served as the Head Baseball Coach at Southside High School in Greenville, SC from the years of 2010-2012. Welch is from Anderson, SC where he played at Westside High School and was an All-Region selection in 2003 & 2004 and participated in the 2004 North/South All-Star Game. Following his time at Westside, Welch continued his baseball career at Anderson University and contributed to the pitching staff at Anderson in a variety of ways. He was named Most Valuable Pitcher in the 2008 season and currently holds the school record in career appearances (99). Welch is also a pitching instructor in the Upstate area and coaches with Canes Baseball in the summer and fall seasons. He lives in Fountain Inn, SC with wife Meredith, son Colt (10) daughter Mary Collier (7) and Olivia Claire (3).
