Gary Asbill is an area scout for the Aiken/Midlands area covering games and working a number of the DP showcases throughout the state.
Coach Asbill began his coaching career in 2011 at South Aiken High School following his playing career at USC Aiken from 2006-2010 as a catcher and designated hitter, coaching big-league talents Andrew Faulkner and Taylor Widener. Following South Aiken, he began teaching and coaching at Saluda High School before a stint at Port St. Lucie High School in Port St. Lucie, FL before returning to Aiken in 2015, serving as an assistant at Aiken High School. From 2016-2020, he served as an assistant coach at USC Aiken, coaching the catchers and hitters while serving as first base coach.

In the summer of 2020, Asbill was named the head baseball coach at Aiken High School. In the recent past, in both the fall and summer seasons, he has served as the head coach for Canes South 17U Prime under the direction of fellow DP Scout/Coordinator, Cory Welch. He was recently named the 16U Canes Scout head coach heading into the 2023 summer.
Asbill is a 2010 graduate of USC Aiken with a BA in English and a minor in Business Administration. He has earned Masters degrees in Education, one being in Curriculum and Instruction and the other being in Educational Leadership.
Gary and his wife, Amanda, reside in Aiken, SC with their pup, Kallie. In his free time, he enjoys hunting and playing guitar, both in and out of their church, Cedar Creek Church. Asbill also serves as an employee for Atomic Turf, in Aiken, SC, performing fertilization and spraying duties for turf grass throughout the area.
