DP dipped into class I A baseball tonight as Southside Christian hosted two-time reigning state champions St. Joseph’s Knights. Two future Citadel Cadets were slated to go up against one another which sparked even more interest. All four arms that threw tonight project to be pretty good, not to mention I might have found a diamond in the rough.

A solid region matchup between two teams that are tied for first in Region II-AAA got my attention tonight and there were a handful of prospects on display. Greenville Red Raiders (on paper) may have the most talented team in 3A baseball this season and Eastside, even losing key seniors last year, still have a couple of prospects themselves. Another beautiful night for baseball to be played!

Today was officially opening day for MLB which just makes life better. This spring has been horrible so far weather-wise, but today was about as picture perfect as one could ask for. Here in the upstate the sun was out and temperatures got up to almost 80 degrees. The remainder of the week looks good as well for a full slate of baseball to be played/made up. Tonight was a single game between JL Mann versus Laurens.

Single game tonight for this scout as I dropped in on Region II-AAAA action between the Byrnes Rebels and Gaffney Indians. Spring is here and the weather in the upstate reflects it.

-Game Recap-

Byrnes’ Hunter Hernandez went head-to-head with Gaffney’s Zach Wood. Hernandez helped his own cause in the bottom half to put the Rebels up 1-0 with his RBI single. Alex Vazquez extended Byrnes’ lead with a sacrifice fly in the second but the Indians cut it back to a one run game in the top half of the third with Luke Lancaster’s single.
