-Wood rings loud in Pawleys Island, prospects emerge-
After weather had been a factor over the first two days of this event, the 13th Annual Coastal Invitational was greeted by sunny skies and mid-60’s temps on Saturday. DP landed at Waccamaw and was given prime seating for the first of four wood bat contests that featured: Pelion vs Aynor, St. James vs Cheraw, Socastee vs Wando & Waccamaw vs Conway. Per usual, Jeff Gregory and Tyler Vick, along with many other awesome volunteers, rolled out the red carpet for Diamond Prospects. For over a dozen years, few places welcome us in the manner that these folks do. We got a tour of their relatively “new” team building/locker room and when an evaluator is on site for a full slate of games, we must be fed too. No shortage of chicken bog was supplied along with an array of snacks that rivaled the competition between the lines! Thank you to Waccamaw baseball, once again, for another first-class tournament and hospitality.
After covering 12 games and 16 teams in three days, there will be no game coverage, simply a breakdown of prospects that performed well on Saturday, and two pitchers from Thursday. Here’s a tease, quite a few brand new names to DP that extend all the way down to the 8th grade! And in the prospect info, at the end there will be bonus coverage from another one of our scouts that pulled into Carolina Forest on Thursday for the Carolina Border Battle to peak in at the action over there.
