A Monday start to three consecutive nights of the final week of league play ordered up perfect fall baseball weather at Rock Hill HS. A back-and-forth scoring game followed what I believe is the first attempt at a pre-game I/O (infield/outfield) I can remember in 3 years – compliments of the Volunteers. Personally I’d like to see more I/O’s because it can provide a better read on players’ defensive abilities – feet, fielding actions, agility, arm action, arm strength, throwing accuracy – that may not show up during the game itself. However, I do understand that start times often make it difficult to fit it in with players & coaches rushing from this & that to get to the ballpark in time.
