Scout Day: Batesburg-Leesville Panthers

By: David List – February 23, 2010 Just when you think you have seen everything that you could possibly see on a baseball field, something new pops up. We were delayed on starting the 60’s today so that cow pies/dung could be cleaned up. It was evident that the local cow had really enjoyed making its way through an open gate in the outfield the night before and feasting on the nice green rye grass. So after some clean-up, we started our baseball workout! Matt Covington’s team is senior heavy this year and they have four college commits. They are hoping that is enough to put them in the drivers seat in the toughest 2A region in the state. The Panthers are counting on consistent play from their senior leaders: Scott Price (right), Cory Harmon, Will Berry and Cooper Gunter. It appears that the Panthers will be able to ride the arms of Scott Price (right) and Cory Harmon and make this region interesting as they go down the stretch in the 2010 prep season.  60’s  Name  Grade  Time  Scott Price  12  7.16  Cooper Gunter  12  7.37  Will Berry  12  7.50  Jace Grandy  12  7.50  Cory Harmon  12  7.50  Andrew Gettys  12  7.34  Ty Covington  12  7.56  DJ Osby  12  7.41  Dametrius Robinson  12  7.22  Brian Terlizzi  11  7.94  Nick Wessinger  11  7.25  Jarad Wallace  11  7.56  Brad Addy  11  7.25  Andre Johnson  11  7.03  KJ Johnson  11  6.68  Chris Stewart  10  7.75  Parker Evans  9  8.69  Chip Price  8  8.31  DJ Peterson  10  7.75  Sheldon Foulks  10  7.19 DP Note: 60’s were run on a soft track. Scout Day: Midland Valley Mustangs

By: David List – February 19, 2010 Diamond Propects made its way out to see the Midland Valley Mustangs for a scout day and it turned out to be the best weather day of the 2010 prep season. Coach Garrett Holmes is in his second year at the helm and feels good that this team will move forward from last years mark in region play. The team is anchored by Senior Evan Barron and Juniors Cole Cromer (right) and Grant Baxley. The Mustangs have a chance to play the spoiler role in a very tough 3A region this year and these guys are primed for the challenges ahead.  60’s  Name  Grade  Time  Chris Knight  12  7.00  Evan Barron  12  7.56  Jordan Holmes  12  7.41  Tyler Padgett  12  6.87  Nolan Meyer  12  7.00  Cole Cromer  11  7.09  Grant Baxley  11  7.47  Kip Smith  11  7.22  Brad Enlow  11  6.90  Dillon Pearson  11  7.78  Cameron Williams  11  7.47  Justin Williams  10  7.19  Austin Barton  10  7.42  Brandon Washington  10  7.22 DP Note: 60’s were run on a normal grass track. Scout Day: Dorman

By: Nick Nickles February 18, 2010  Ben Waddle has a young Dorman team in 2010 that remains athletic. Year in and year out, Waddle’s clubs consistently run better than other clubs during workouts. This simply proves the program’s dedication to 12-month weight room and conditioning workouts. While no individual did anything that stood out during the workout, mostly every kid in the program graded out above high school average. Here’s a look at the 2010 Dorman Cavaliers.   60’s  Name  Grade  Time  Hunter Cole  11th  6.97  Ian McKinney  12th  7.09  Alex Rogers  11th  7.18  Christian Millwood  11th  7.17  Ethan Moore  11th  7.60  Tyler Wilson  12th  6.90  Adam Armstrong  11th  7.66  Joseph Metz  12th  6.96  Tyler Crocker  11th  7.87  Dillion Bonner  11th  7.51  Zach Metts  12th  6.96  Wes Schuler  11th  7.16  Michael Sobeski  12th  7.58  Bradley Scruggs  10th  7.14  Will Thompson  10th  6.99  Fisher Easterling  12th  7.05   Catchers-Pop Times  Name  Grade  Time  Tyler Crocker  11th  2.37  Ethan Moore  11th  2.15   Outfield-Top Arms  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Joseph Metz  12th  2  Zach Metts  12th  3  Tyler Wilson  12th   Infield-Top Arms  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Hunter Cole  11th  2  Fisher Easterling  12th  3  Will Thompson  10th   Infield-Top Actions  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Hunter Cole  12th  2  Will Thompson  10th  3  Christian Millwood  11th   Pitchers-Bullpens  Name  Grade  R/L  FB  CB/SL  CH  Ian Mckinney  12th  L  81-84  70-72 Solid at times    Will Thompson  10th  R  81-83 occasional arm side run 67-69  62   Fisher Easterling  12th  R  81-84  70-72 73   Hunter Cole  11th  R   83-86  73-74    Micheal Sobeski  12th  R  59-62 "Subby"      Wes Schuler  11th  R  84  71   DP Note: All velocity readings were recorded with a Stalker radar gun. Scout Day: Emerald

By: Nick Nickles-February 18, 2010  Stanley Moss allowed us to run his Emerald Vikings through a pro workout, and to our surprise we located one of the fastest players in the state in previously unknown sophomore John Mulkey. Unsigned senior Reid Dixon showed a nice arm during OF, and Emerald’s tools translated pretty well in the scrimmage against Dorman. Emerald is a scrappy bunch with hidden athleticism that could translaste into a postseason headache for higher ranked teams. Moss is one of the top 5 coaches in the state and he has consistently won with lesser talent dating back to his days at Greenwood. He will have the Vikings ready to go this season even after unexpectedly losing the top two players on his club in recent weeks.   60’s  Name  Grade  Time  Reid Dixon  11th  7.35  John Mulkey  10th  6.78  Cooper Mullet  10th  7.51  Taylor Buchanan  10th  7.41  DJ Cox  11th  7.58  Riley Detreville  10th  7.90  Matthew Quarles  9th  7.60  Kevin McKenna  11th  7.78  Eric Clark  11th  7.28  Kyle Turner  10th  7.75  John Bates  11th  8.35  Logan McGraw  10th  7.93  Thomas Walker  11th  7.85  William Walker  10th  8.17   Catchers-Pop Times  Name  Grade  Time  Thomas Walker  11th  2.25   Outfield-Top Arms  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Thomas Mulkey  10th  2  Eric Clark  11th  3  Reid Dixon  12th   Infield-Top Arms  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Taylor Buchannan  10th   Infield-Top Actions  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Taylor Buchanan  10th   Pitchers-Bullpens  Name  Grade  R/L  FB  CB/SL  CH  Kevin McKenna  11th  R  78-79   62-64    Matthew Quarles  9th  R  76-78  64  68-69 + change  Kyle Turner  10th  R  75-78  61-62    Eric Clark  11th  R  74-78     DP Note: All velocity readings were recorded with a Stalker radar gun. Scout Day: Saluda Tigers

By: David List – February 9, 2010  DP took a trip to Saluda to see what the Tigers had in store for the 2010 prep season. The rain stayed at bay long enough to get through BP and then the heavens opened up on us. That didn’t stop bullpens though and in the end, we completed all components of the scout day. Head coach Scott Taylor’s group is laden with seniors and they are hoping to make some noise in a very tough 2A region. They will lean on seniors Nolan Noteboom, Andrew Whittle, Will Black, Brian Bushey and Asa Still. Up the middle they looked ready for the task at hand and, as always, pitching depth will play heavily on the success of this team in 2010. Underclassmen Walker Noteboom and Derek Tucker will also play an important role in this team’s success.                                                                                                                         60’s  Name  Grade  Time  Nolan Noteboom  12  7.20  Walker Noteboom  10  7.12  Andrew Whittle  12  7.34  Will Black  12  8.18  Brian Bushey  12  7.10  Seth Quesinberry  12  7.43  Asa Still  12  7.90  Colton Price  11  7.50  Brent Lake  12  7.75  Jack Nicholas  9  8.28  Derek Tucker  10  7.64 DP Note: 60’s were run on a soft track. Scout Day: Aiken Hornets

By: David List – February 8, 2010 Sunshine finally covered the landscape on Monday and it allowed DP to get out and do a scout day at Aiken High School. The Hornets would bring a very different look to the field this year after losing 7 players to graduation, five of which started regularly. Key losses for the Hornets included Thomas Timmerman and Greg Milanes. Also the twin speedsters in the outfield, Hunter and Kessler Scott, will also be missed defensively.  Coach Luton is looking to his seniors Bryce Clifton, Bren Wilson, Spencer McCants and Bobby Haas for leadership and production this year. Junior Hanlon Maivelett and freshman Trey Roberts will also be counted on to produce and they look to be up to the challenge. Pitching depth will be the key to the success of this team in the upcoming season.  60’s  Name  Grade  Time  Bryce Clifton  12  7.16  Spencer McCants  12  7.46  Tyler Jarchow  10  7.60  Bendon Wilson  12  7.44  Jeffrey Brazier  10  8.02  Trey Roberts  9  7.03  Ryan Maddrey  12  7.91  Hanlon Maivelett  11  7.48  Kendall Barringer  11  7.61  Kevin Boerstler  11  8.81  Zach Grimes  11  7.91  Billy Vickers  11  7.00  Braylin Griffin  11  6.94  Bobby Haas  12  DNR Catchers-Pop Times  Name  Grade  Time  Bobby Haas  12  2.15-2.25  Hanlon Maivelett  11  2.06-2.22  Zach Grimes  11  2.33-2.41 Outfield-Top Arms  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Trey Roberts  9  2  Bryce Clifton  12  3  Billy Vickers  11  4  Cameron Chapman  12  5  Hanlon Maivelett  11 Infield-Top Arms  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Spencer McCants  12  2  Brendon Wilson  12  3  Bryce Clifton  12  4  Kevin Boerstler  11  5  Jeffrey Brazier  10 Infield-Top Actions  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Spencer McCants  12  2  Brendon Wilson  12  3  Jeffrey Brazier  10  4  Trey Roberts  9  5  Kevin Boerstler  11 Hitters-Top BP Rounds/Swings  Rank  Name  Grade  1  Hanlon Maivelett  11  2  Spencer McCants  12  3  Trey Roberts  9  4  Bren Wilson  12  5  Bobby Haas  12  6  Kevin Boerstler  11  7  Cameron Chapman  12 Pitchers-Bullpens  Name  Grade  R/L  FB  CB/SL  CH  Spencer McCants  12  R  81-83  69  –  Brendon Wilson  12  R  77-78  64  65  Kendall Barringer  11  R  67-69  60-61  –  Trey Roberts  9  R  80-81  —–  –  Bryce Clifton  12  L  77-78  CB65, SL69  72  Tyler Jarchow  10  R  71-73  56-57  – DP Note: All velocity readings were recorded with a Stalker radar gun.
