It was a definite long shot to get this night’s game in at Northwestern HS. That was the case when a bunch of reschedules were made on Sunday and that was still the case looking at the forecasted rain yesterday morning and afternoon.
The field held tough, though, and a last-minute decision was made to play. Then…the two areas of no concern – the tarped home plate and pitcher’s mound – became the biggest concerns once the tarps were moved. Obviously, water had come through or under the tarps making those dirt areas unplayable without some attention. So, the folks at the field and I began scratching a rake, adding turface to the wettest spots and wheelbarrowing away clumps that weren’t complying. In the end it was Play Ball!
This Volunteer-Trojans match-up was the only game of the night for DP Greater Rock Hill. All other games had been moved ahead to Monday or back to Thursday, with the only other exception being tonight’s DH between the Copperheads and Bearcats at Rock Hill HS. To say playing that game is iffy may be an understatement, but so was yesterday’s outlook.
