Baseball by the Sea: Mingo Bay & H.I.T.

By: Austin Alexander, David Beckley & Jon Helsabeck – April 6-9, 2021

MorlandoPJ stanceIP21Ideal Spring Break weather yielded to a perfect week of covering baseball at the annual Mingo Bay (formerly Hawaiian Tropic) which fielded 19 teams, 16 from in-state schools. Typically this tournament covers three weeks with teams hailing from a dozen or more states. Obvious reasons shrunk the field but was actually a win for DP because it featured more Palmetto State clubs!

The format was three days of games at ten separate sites. DP attempted what we could due to Horry County Covid guidelines, which never seems to be a win for the student-athletes. BUT, the Mingo Bay was a W for the players and families who attended the ballparks to see the more action than we did at this time last year.

Then the Hanahan Invitational Tournament, what a thriller we witnessed on Wednesday night at Summerville HS in the nightcap of a double dip, among the three contests we covered in the Charleston area.

This may end up being the most unusual compilation of games and cramming of prospect info in our 16-year history, think RedZone channel for baseball fans, dp style? But here is why, we have all been racing around the state for weeks, which we enjoy, and we have three different people with their own style chiming in on what went down along the coastline this week. So, have fun as we take you on a little journey with us!
