Diamond Prospects presents the Uncommitted Player of the Week Award for the 2012 high school baseball season. Starting this year DP has decided to further its focus on the players who may be flying under the radar of college programs. In addition to naming a Player of the Week, a first and second runner-up will be listed as well as a few honorable mentions in our new award.
Important Note: Deadline for submission of nominees is on each Monday by noon.
This week’s award is for the week of April 1, 2012 to April 8, 2012. Let’s check out this week’s top uncommitted performers!
First Runner Up:
Ricky Harrison- White Knoll, Junior, LHP: The junior went the distance against Wren allowing just one unearned run. Harrison totaled ten strikeouts while allowing two walks and scattering seven hits.
Second Runner Up:
Cory Thompson- Mauldin, Junior, RHP/SS: Thompson went five and one third innings in a win over AC Flora in the Forest Acres Classic. He also joined the 90 MPH club as he hit 91 in his first two innings on the bump.
Brandon Ahrens- Newberry, Senior, RHP/1B: Topped out at 88 MPH in the Sandlapper Classic. DP Scout Will Cheatham feels he is the best uncommitted arm he has seen this year.
And with no further ado this week’s Uncommitted Player of the Week is:
Akeem Bostick- West Florence, Junior, RHP:
Bostick wins the Uncommitted Player of the Week award again thanks to his stellar play against Carolina Forest. He went six innings without allowing a single run on the mound. At the plate he showed how well rounded a player he is going 2-for-4 and scored the game’s only run. While his velocity was down from previous showings he still was able to handle the Carolina Forest lineup, allowing just four hits and struck out five. Bostick still was able to hit 88 MPH on the gun and displayed excellent control as noted by DP Scout Derick Urquhart. He also has become a regular on the list as he continues to dominate Region 6.
Congratulations to everyone and keep up the great work.
