The first pitches covered in the 2022 campaign of DP Fall League-GRH were right down the street at Northwestern HS. Early-fall temps showed up, a new press box to work from, a good-looking field and four teams were competing and learning how to play the game at ever-increasing higher levels.
There were also two fine men/coaches in charge of the squads – Coach Mike Lucas, reigning SCHS 2A State Champion and Sir Kelly Clayton who is not on the Northwestern staff but finds a way to coach a team or two in the league each year…and does such a commendable job. It was a very good first night in many ways, none more important than giving the players a fun time and a chance to hone their baseball tools and skills in game situations.
Rolling into the 7th year of this league makes a couple things easier, but the ever-growing number of league teams – 7 in its first year and now 26 – will naturally add to the administrative load. The model set up for the dp fall leagues is a winning model and its proven year after year all across the state with well over a hundred teams in 5 different dp fall leagues.
