Every year the when playoffs get going you always look for a day like today with games spread out like they were. This gives DP the perfect opportunity to not only lock in prospects (our main focus) but also catch a solid high school game in the process. Today, the stage was set for us to knock out three games in three different classifications. More importantly, it allowed us to lay eyes on nearly 100 players.
We started our tour at 1:00 pm where the Dorman Cavaliers hosted TL Hanna Yellow Jackets in the 5A winner’s bracket game. After posting up for five innings, we took off down I-85 to hit up the 3:00 pm affair at Greenville HS where the Raiders were squaring off against Wren Hurricanes in the 4A losers bracket game. A slight rain delay held us up a little, but we were still able to get in five complete before tracking back up I-85 to Chesnee, SC to witness the Eagles versus Cheraw Braves in the 2A winner’s bracket game.
With whether in low-80’s on an early May Saturday, spectators flocked to these games giving us the perfect playoff ambiance. At the end of the day, Chesnee took the cake on attendance and best baseball atmosphere. Most top arms were not available on this day as they had to either throw to get their club in the Upper State or toe the rubber in game one’s. This gave other opportunities for underclassman to show their ability. Two freshmen stole the show (pictured left-Rocco Reid) with a handful of others giving us a glimpse of what’s to come.
DP Note: Game recaps are brief as for focus was solely prospect driven...
