-Prospects, Lowcountry dining, more prospects steal show at IP-
The 27th Annual International Paper Classic, or The IP as it is affectionately called, was held at Mike Johnson Park in Georgetown from Thursday to Saturday with eight teams hailing from every corner of South Carolina. Participants in the tournament field were as follows: Ashley Ridge, Bishop England, Boiling Springs, Dutch Fork, Easley, Georgetown, James Island and TL Hanna.
Our man Derrick was scouring the neighborhood for foul balls, Coach Johnson was doing his usual fieldwork, Big Bill's BBQ had teams and scouts hanging out under the tents wanting more, chicken bog (or purrr-low if in G-town) was the Saturday treat, old-school music plus good 'ole beach tunes rang out over the speakers, legit chili dogs and nachos (say no more), 'Jesus Saves' stood strong by the batters eye and people flocked to this quaint old ballpark settled in a city block under sunny skies once more...these are the times you know that life is good and it's time for baseball at The IP Classic!
Alicia Johnson and her host of volunteers put on a great show, just as they do every year. Mike Johnson Park was buzzing on Opening Day as the talent was assembled and took the stage with a solid smattering of college coaches and pro scouts, and of course DP was right there in the same seat as every previous year!
Per usual, Day 1 extended past the stroke of midnight, but also as is the norm, prospects galore were on the field, including our state's top senior prospect and a freshman whose name and reputation spreads with each game!
