Historic Duncan Park kicked off the first of three DP scrimmage dates here in the Upstate on this Saturday in early February. With two other sites going today DP will lay eyes on 18 teams. Over the past seven years this event is usually 30-40 degrees or snowed out like last year; but not today. Baseball fans were greeted with sunny skies and temps in the low-70’s creating a perfect day for hardball.
Our lineup today featured: Chapman vs. Chesnee, Gaffney vs. Greenville and Spartanburg vs. Riverside. These scrimmages are set up for 9 innings or 2.5 hours with a 7 hitter per inning limit. Our focus is for players to get reps, coaches to see what they have and evaluators to lock in on prospects. Usually all three get accomplished and today was no different. At the end, 26 of the possible 27 innings were played in less than 7.5 hours. Some prospects upped their status as new names emerged.
