-A Coach’s Farewell-
Tonight was a special night for baseball at Greenville HS. Not only did they recognize their departing senior class but also they honored Head Coach Steve Scolamiero who is retiring after 22 years. For those that have gotten the opportunity to get to know not only this great teacher of the game, but also a great teacher of life, I can say he is one that will be greatly missed. (Left, embracing his son Clark)
Coach Scolamiero, who is also the Athletic Director at Greenville HS, has become a role model for so many kids throughout his coaching career. The number of lives that he has touched is countless. Steve and I became friends my first year doing Diamond Prospects (which was a doozy). He helped me in ways words can’t describe and was an ear when I needed someone to talk to. Even to this day I lean on him for many things. Being an Athletic Director you have to wear many hats and deal with numerous issues on a daily basis but not once did I ever hear him complain; not once did I hear a negative word come out of his mouth. The professionalism that he possesses is something that became contagious.
A great man of the game may be hanging up the turf shoes this year but you can bet he will always be a teacher and a role model for anyone that encounters him. Coach Scolamiero will continue being the Athletic Director at Greenville HS and whoever is named the new Head Coach will be in great hands.
We did some research on Coach Scolamiero and below you will see the impact he brought to the diamond over the past 22 years. Thanks again Steve for a job well-done, the game of baseball is taking a loss after the 2014 season passes…But we all know you will not be too far away!
